From Pieter

Wednesday

This is the week of prayer for the unity of Christians. On Wednesday morning at 10am we will meet in Woodhill Church, Chobham Road, to reflect on this elusive unity and to pray for it. If you can’t make it, please pray at home for unity.

Thursday meetings

We will be studying Philippians on 23 January. Why not join us? I have the booklets available. A prayer meeting will take place on Thursday 30 January. With the impending pastoral vacancy, prayer is needed!

Assisted dying

We received a helpful brochure from CARE about the assisted dying bill.  We prayed about this issue on Thursday, that the UK will not get a law which allows this.  The brochure says, e.g., that fear of pain is not the main reason why people choose to die.  The fear of being a burden on friends and family is a more important incentive.  This shows how dangerous such a law would be.

In Belgium the original law was widened and now includes the possibility of euthanasia due to depression, blindness, anorexia and gender dysphoria!  In the Netherlands, every year more than 5% of the deaths are a result of euthanasia.

Let us pray for MPs who oppose the bill such as Wes Streeting, Diane Abbott, Ed Davey and Shabana Mahmood, that they can convince their colleagues.

Baptisms elsewhere

Millmead Baptist Church in Guildford baptised three people; Heathfield baptised twelve; and a church in Bristol had 88 baptisms during 2024.
